More Than a Reiki Certification: A Meaningful Reiki Level 1 Training Experience in Coquitlam

Sometimes, the most beautiful part of teaching isn't what happens during class. It's what continues long after everyone goes home.

This past Sunday, November 1, I welcomed a beautiful group of students into my home Zen studio in Coquitlam for a full day of Usui Reiki Level 1 training.

As a Reiki Master Teacher, I've had the privilege of sharing this practice with many students over the years. Yet every class reminds me why I fell in love with Reiki in the first place.

Every group brings different stories, intentions, and reasons for wanting to learn.

Some are seeking a deeper connection with themselves. Others want to support their loved ones, explore energy healing, or begin a new chapter in their personal journey.

But what I find most meaningful is watching students discover that Reiki is not simply something they receive from another practitioner.

It's also a practice they can learn to bring into their own everyday lives.

A Day of Learning, Connection, and Discovery

Throughout our Reiki Level 1 class, we explored the foundations of traditional Usui Reiki, including its history, principles, self-treatment practices, hand positions, and hands-on healing techniques.

Students also received their Reiki attunement and had opportunities to practise both giving and receiving Reiki.

We shared moments of quiet reflection, curiosity, laughter, and meaningful conversation.

For me, teaching Reiki is never just about following a manual or completing a certification.

It's about creating a welcoming space where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring their experiences, and learning at their own pace.

There is no need to force a particular sensation or experience.

Every person's Reiki journey is unique.

And that's something I always encourage my students to honour.

What Touched My Heart Most Happened After Class

One of the most meaningful moments came after our training had finished.

Our students created a WhatsApp group to stay connected and support one another throughout their 21-day Reiki self-practice journey.

Soon, beautiful messages began appearing.

Students shared their excitement about practising Reiki on themselves, offering Reiki to family members, and exploring what they had learned.

Reading their reflections filled my heart with gratitude.

It reminded me that a Reiki class may last one day, but the learning and personal practice can continue for a lifetime.

As a teacher, there is something deeply rewarding about seeing students become curious, confident, and excited to continue learning.

That, to me, is the true beauty of teaching.

Heartfelt Words From My Reiki Students

I was especially touched to receive three beautiful five-star Google reviews following our training.

One student, Manuella, described her Reiki Level 1 experience as wonderful and inspiring, sharing how much she appreciated the passion, knowledge, and genuine care behind the teaching.

Jodi highlighted the professionalism of the training and the importance of connecting with students on a deeper level.

Serrina described her experience as deeply positive and shared her intention to continue learning.

Their words mean so much to me.

Not because of the five stars, but because they remind me that students felt supported, welcomed, and inspired to continue their journey.

I am grateful for the trust each student placed in me and for the opportunity to be part of their learning.

What Will You Learn in Reiki Level 1 Training?

If you've been curious about learning Reiki, you don't need previous experience with energy healing.

Reiki Level 1, also known as Shoden, is the beginning of your Reiki learning journey.

During my in-person Reiki Level 1 certification class in Coquitlam, we explore:

  • The origins, history, and principles of Usui Reiki

  • Understanding Reiki and the foundations of energy healing

  • Gassho meditation and mindful awareness

  • Reiki hand positions and self-treatment techniques

  • Giving and receiving hands-on Reiki

  • Receiving your Reiki Level 1 attunement

  • Beginning your 21-day Reiki self-practice journey

  • Ways to integrate Reiki into daily life

Students receive a training manual and Reiki Level 1 certification upon successful completion of the course.

But beyond the certificate, my hope is that every student leaves feeling supported and encouraged to develop a meaningful personal practice.

Your Reiki Journey Doesn't End After Certification

One thing I deeply believe is that learning should never end when a class finishes.

I love staying connected with my students, hearing about their experiences, and offering encouragement as they continue practising.

Through our Reiki community and opportunities for Reiki sharing, students can continue developing their skills, asking questions, and connecting with others who share their interest in this practice.

For those who wish to continue, Reiki Level 2 offers an opportunity to deepen their learning, including traditional Reiki symbols and distance Reiki practices.

There is no rush.

Every journey unfolds in its own time.

A Final Reflection

As I reflect on this past weekend, I feel incredibly grateful.

Grateful for the students who walked through my door.

Grateful for their openness, curiosity, and willingness to learn.

And grateful that this practice continues to bring people together in such meaningful ways.

To my beautiful Reiki students: thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey.

May you continue to practise with kindness, patience, and an open heart.
