Gassho Meditation: A Simple Reiki Practice to Calm Your Nervous System
There are days when your mind just won’t stop.
You sit down, hoping for a moment of peace…
but the thoughts keep running.
The tension stays in your chest.
Your body feels like it’s always “on.”
I know this feeling—
because I see it in so many of the women I work with.
High-achieving. Responsible. Always holding everything together.
And this is exactly why I always come back to one simple practice:
Gassho.
What is Gassho Meditation?
Gassho (合掌) is a traditional practice used in Reiki.
It simply means:
👉 “bringing the hands together”
Palms gently pressed together in front of your heart.
But this small gesture carries deep meaning:
connection
gratitude
presence
returning to yourself
In Reiki practice, Gassho is often used as a gateway into meditation, helping you shift from a busy mind into a calm, centered state.
Why Gassho is So Powerful (Especially for Busy Women)
This is not just a hand position.
It’s a nervous system reset.
When you bring your hands together at your heart:
your breath naturally slows
your attention moves inward
your body begins to soften
Many of my clients share that within minutes, they feel:
less anxious
more grounded
emotionally lighter
deeply present
And the best part?
You can do it anywhere.
You don’t need experience.
It only takes a few minutes.
How to Practice Gassho Meditation (Step-by-Step)
You can follow this simple practice:
Sit comfortably
(on a chair or on the floor)Bring your palms together
gently at your heart centerClose your eyes
Begin to notice your breath
(no need to change it)Let your attention rest
where your fingers touchIf your mind wanders
softly bring it back to your hands
Stay here for 3–10 minutes.
There is nothing to force.
Just return… again and again.

Take a moment for yourself.
I’ve created a gentle guided Gassho meditation to help you drop into this practice:
A Small Shift That Changes Everything
Sometimes, healing doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from pausing.
From placing your hands together…
and remembering:
You are already here.
You are already enough.
You can come back to yourself at any moment.
