Sound Bath, Reiki or Access Bars®: What’s the Difference — and Which One Is Right for You?
Maybe you know you need a reset.
You’ve been feeling stressed, mentally busy, emotionally heavy, or simply tired of carrying so much. You know you want to slow down and take care of yourself — but when you look at all the different wellness options, you may wonder:
Should I try Reiki? A sound bath? Access Bars®? What’s actually the difference?
I hear this question often, especially from people who are new to energy and holistic wellness.
The truth is, there isn’t one experience that is “better” than another. They simply offer different ways to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and create space away from the constant doing of everyday life.
Here’s how I explain them to my clients.
Sound Healing: When You Want to Pause and Receive
A sound bath is often a beautiful place to begin if you feel like you simply need to stop, breathe and rest.
During my sound healing experiences, I use crystal singing bowls and other instruments to create layers of sound and vibration while you rest comfortably.
There is nothing you need to achieve.
You don’t have to be “good” at meditation. You don’t have to stop your thoughts. You simply lie down, listen and allow yourself to receive the experience.
I offer both group sound baths and more personalized somatic sound healing experiences. In a private session, singing bowls may also be used on or around the body, depending on the session and your comfort level.
People often choose sound healing when they are craving deep rest, quiet time, grounding or simply a break from their busy routines.
Reiki: When You’re Craving Gentle, Nurturing Support
Reiki is a gentle Japanese energy-healing practice that I have personally loved and practiced for many years.
During a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed while resting comfortably. I use light touch or work just above the body, depending on your preferences.
For me, Reiki is less about “fixing” something and more about creating a quiet, supportive space where you can slow down and reconnect with yourself.
Some clients come to Reiki during stressful periods. Others come when they feel emotionally drained, are going through a transition, or simply want dedicated time for themselves.
And sometimes there doesn’t need to be a big reason.
You don’t have to wait until you are completely burned out before giving yourself permission to receive care.
Access Bars®: When Your Mind Just Won’t Switch Off
This is where Access Bars® can feel quite different from Reiki or sound healing.
Access Bars® involves gently touching 32 points on the head associated within the Access Consciousness® system with different areas of life and thought.
I often describe Bars very simply to my clients:
If Reiki feels like nurturing the whole person, Access Bars® can feel like giving your busy mind permission to stop working so hard for a while.
It can be especially appealing if you feel mentally overloaded, stuck in repetitive thinking, or constantly planning, analyzing and thinking about what comes next.
You don’t need to understand the technique before coming. You simply lie down, receive and notice your own experience.
So… Which One Should You Choose?
Instead of asking, “Which treatment is best?” try asking yourself:
What am I needing most right now?
If you’re craving an immersive experience of sound, vibration and stillness, you may be drawn to a sound bath or somatic sound healing.
If you want gentle, nurturing one-to-one time and space to reconnect with yourself, you may be drawn to Reiki.
If your mind feels like it has 27 tabs open and you’re longing for some mental spaciousness, you might be curious about Access Bars®.
And sometimes, you don't know.
That’s okay too.
You Don’t Need to Arrive With the Answer
One thing I’ve learned through working with clients is that we don’t always need another thing to figure out.
Sometimes we simply need a space where we aren’t responsible for anyone else for an hour.
No performing.
No taking care of everybody.
No trying to get everything right.
Just a little room to receive.
That is what I hope to create through my work.
Whether you join me for a community sound bath or come for a private Reiki, somatic sound healing or Access Bars® session, my intention is to offer a calm, welcoming space where you can slow down and reconnect with yourself.
You don't need to be in crisis to deserve a reset.
Sometimes taking care of yourself before you reach that point is the most meaningful place to begin.
